چکیده

• MHT allowed the recovery of fucoidan saccharides and phenolics in liquor. Glucan to glucose conversion up 100% was obtained saccharification Sm. Energy consumption pretreatment assessed with comparative purposes. 20.5 g ethanol/L (yield = 96%) were achieved after at 180° C 11 min (S0 3.41). Multiproduct biorefinery Sm via this work. This study deals multiproduct valorization invasive macroalgae Sargassum muticum within a green concept using microwave hydrothermal treatment. Temperatures 160 180 °C for 0–60 (severities 1.62–3.54) evaluated, allowing liquid phase rich fucoidan-derived compounds (up 4.81 g/L), oligomers antioxidant capacity 2.85 TE/L by ABTS assay), high-enzymatically susceptible solid (glucan 76–100% 9 h) suitable bioethanol production (20.5 g/L 18 h, corresponding 96% ethanol yield). Moreover, energy pretreatments’ temperature–time binomial evaluated showing significant differences, demonstrating advantages as alternative heating pretreatment.

Valorization of Sargassum muticum Biomass According to the Biorefinery Concept

The biorefinery concept integrates processes and technologies for an efficient biomass conversion using all components of a feedstock. Sargassum muticum is an invasive brown algae which could be regarded as a renewable resource susceptible of individual valorization of the constituent fractions into high added-value compounds. Microwave drying technology can be proposed before conventional etha...

Facilitative effects of introduced Pacific oysters on native macroalgae are limited by a secondary invader, the seaweed Sargassum muticum

a r t i c l e i n f o Introduced habitat-providing organisms such as epibenthic bivalves may facilitate the invasion and expansion of further non-native species which may modify the effects of the primary invader on the native system. In the sedimentary intertidal Wadden Sea (southeastern North Sea) introduced Pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigas) have overgrown native blue mussel beds (Mytilus e...

Physicochemical studies of cadmium(II) biosorption by the invasive alga in Europe, Sargassum muticum.

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the studies concerning brown seaweed as biosorbents for metal removal owing to their high binding ability and low cost. This work reports the results of a study regarding the cadmium binding equilibria of dead biomass from the seaweed Sargassum muticum; this alga is a pest fouling organism that competes with the local fucalean species an...

Mobile epifauna inhabiting the invasive Sargassum muticum and two local seaweeds in northern Spain

The mobile epifauna colonizing the invasive brown alga Sargassum muticum (Yendo) Fensholt was compared with assemblages inhabiting two locally established seaweeds (Fucus vesiculosus L. and Cystoseira nodicaulis (Whit.) Roberts) in a sheltered locality of northern Spain. The epifauna colonizing S. muticum was studied in both the shallow subtidal and intertidal pools at mid shore. The main aims ...
